Interview - Dai Koyamada

Kurz vor Dai's Abreise nach Japan habe ich ihn gebeten,mir ein kleines Interview zu geben. Dabei ging es um allgemeine Fragen zu seiner Person, zum Frankenjura und wie seine Pläne für's nächste Jahr aussehen.

1. Auf welche Art von Kletterei bist du spezialisiert?
Did you specialize in any style of climbing?

Ich bin nicht auf einen bestimmten Kletterstil spezialisiert. Um ehrlich zu sein klettere ich wie es mir gerade gefällt.
I didn't specialized in specific style of climbing. I climb to be honest to my motivation at  that time.

2. Bist du Vollprofi oder hast du nebenbei noch einen Job?
Are you a professional climber or do you have a job besides it?

Derzeit werde ich von zwei japanischen Export Agenturen für Kletterausrüstung gesponsert. Das erlaubt mir zu Klettern und mein Leben zu Leben. Ausserdem fertige und verkaufe ich meine eigenen Plastikgriffe und produziere die Kleidermarke INGA.

Now I am financially sponsored by two Japanese export agents of climbing gears
and they allows me to climb and live.I also make and sell my own brand of plastic holds and I am a producer of the clothing brand,INGA

3. Welche Erfolge am Fels hast du bisher zu verzeichnen und nimmst du an Wettkämpfen teil?
Which were you major successes so far and do you climb indoor competitions as well?

Am stärksten beindruckt hat mich der Durchstieg von ActionDirecte 9a, da ein Erfolg in dieser Route schon seit meinen ersten Klettertagen eines meiner Ziele war. The wheel of life V16 in Australien, Dreamtime in der Schweiz und die Erstbegehung von Babel V15/16 in Japan. Bis 2000 habe ich regelmäßig an Wettkämpfen teilgenommen, dann aber nach einigen Finalplazierungen in Weltmeisterschaften aufgehört. Heute klettere ich überhaupt keine Wettkämpfe mehr.

The most impressive was an ascent of ActionDirecte 9a. Because it was my long time destination from my first days of climbing. And The wheel of life V16 in Australia, Dreamtime in Switzerland and the first ascent of Babel V15/16 in Japan.I frequently took part in competition until 2000. I had been a finalist sometimes in the world championship but I stopped flatly. I don't participate competition at all now.

4. Wie kam der Kontakt mit den heimischen Kletterern zustande?
How did you come into contact with local climbers here in this area?

Über Hannes Huch, einem Freund und Fotodesigner aus Nürnberg den ich seit 2002 kenne, konnte ich viele Freundschaften an den fränkischen Felsen schliessen. Da es keine Topos von den Bouldern in der Fränkischen gibt haben mir die Locals viel geholfen. Leute aus Deutschland sind sehr nett.

It was possible to contact with local climbers through Hannes Huch (a photodesigner in Nurnberg and a friend since 2002) and became friends at the rocks.There is no topos of bouldering in Frankenjura so local climbers helped me a lot.People in Germany are very kind.

5. Was schätzt du besonders an den Felsen des Frankenjuras?
What do you appreciate most / like best about the frankenjura rocks?

Die Felsen der Fränkischen mit ihren Löchern/Kanten müssen speziell gebouldert werden und das ist genau mein Stil. Ausserdem mag ich dass die Routen nicht so lang sind u. die Zugstiege meist kurz. Neben den Felsen mag ich die Landschaft sehr gerne. Wunderschöne Wälder, die ländliche Gegend mit Bächen und Flüssen. Ich fühle mich schon wohl nur hier in der Umgebung zu sein - auch ohne die Felsen.

Rocks in Frankenjura needs me boulder move with pockets and edges and it is the style what I like.And what I like is the routes are not so long and I don't have to walk too long.And more I like is the environment which surround rocks . Beautiful forests, a rural landscape, streams and etc.. I feel very comfortable just being there.I also regard environment not only rocks.

6. Wie oft warst du bisher im Frankenjura?
How many times have you already been to the frankenjura?

Vier Mal bisher. Mein erster Besuch liegt 12 Jahre zurück. Danach noch in 2002, 2005 und 2007.
4 times. My first visit was 12 years ago.And in 2002, 2005 and 2007.

7. Können die Boulder des Frankenjuras mit denen anderer Bouldergebiete mithalten,wie zb. Bleau oder Tessin?
Do you think our boulder here can keep up with other areas like e.g. bleau or tessin?

Auf jeden Fall vergleichbar.
It is match enough.

8. Was gefällt dir speziell an den Bouldern des Frankenjuras?
What is special resp. what specifically do you like about frankenjura boulder problems?

Die Probleme sind sehr athletisch und modern. Ausserdem sind die Boulder sehr Variationsreich.

Problems in Frankenjura is very much gymnastic and modern(contemporary). And it is wonderful that they are very rich in variations.

9. Kommst du noch mal wieder um das momentan schwerste Boulderproblem "Gossip" 8c zu probieren?
Will you come here again to have a try at the currently most difficult boulder problem "Gossip" 8c?

Ich hatte die Gelegenheit den oberen Teil ein wenig zu probieren. Mir gelangen Züge und ich hatte das Gefühl dass es nicht unmöglich für mich wäre. Aber es ist ein richtig hartes Problem. Es zeigt genau wie stark Markus Bock eigentlich ist. Nächstes Jahr will ich es versuchen.

I had a chance to try upper part of it a little bit. I could solve the moves and I felt it is not impossible still it is a real hard problem.It is a problem like to show how Markus Bock is strong.I want to try it again next year.

10. Du wolltest ja eigentlich "Corona" 9a+ probieren. Warst du mal in der Route drin?
You initially planned to try "Corona 9a+". Did you already took a chance to try it?

Ich hab mich am letzten Tag in die Route abgeseilt und die Griffe ausgecheckt. Schaut richtig schwer aus, aber ich könnte eine Lösung finden. Jetzt ist die Route ein großes Ziel von mir.

I did rappel (descent from the top) and checked the holds in a last mday. It seemed very hard but I could find possibility. It became a big target of me.
