Serenata 8C for Dawid Skoczylas

Polish climber and UK resident Dawid Skoczylas hasrepeated Mike Adams' 8C SerenataonImpossible Roof, Roche Abbey, South Yorkshire. Dawid put substantial time andeffort into the problem and joins a fairly small list of 'honorary' Brits to climb 8C.
Serenataclimbs the low start intoSerenityand ends in Ned Feehally'sSerenadeextension, therefore creating a link of an~8B+ into ~7C+, to produce one of the UKC's hardest problems, first climbed in 2015.
Fitting in attempts between a full-time job and looking after his four children, Dawid's ascent is highly impressive. He told UKC:
"I am very pleased and surprised I did it.Relieved that a couple of years of effort (including time spent on Serenity and Serendipity) materialised in the ascent. Also relieved that I didn't get injured in the process! Brilliant line which you can dropon almost every move."

8c boulders barefoot
The episode that climbing shoe companies won’t sponsor! This week we meet Charles Albert. He has been climbing in Fontainebleau as long as he can remember. Now he is 18, and he’s probably the only guy who climbs 8th grade problems, barefoot.

Erstbegehung "Wrath of the lichking" 8c
Felix Knaub gelang Anfang Dezember mit „Wrath of the lichking“ (8c fb) seine zweite Erstbegehung in diesem Grad. Der Boulder war ein Projekt von Markus Windisch, das er Felix geschenkt hat und steigt in „Geißel Gottes“ (8b fb) ein, hat aber nicht den 7c Ausstieg sondern steigt „Mopedsurfer“ (8a+ fb) aus.
Nachdem Felix „Geißel Gottes“ gemacht hat und ihm dieser Boulder ganz gut reinlief, versuchte er schließlich einfach den anderen Ausstieg an den Anfang zu hängen. Leichter gesagt als getan. Der Anfang pumpt mit seinen weiten und athletischen Zügen gut vor. An den zwei guten Griffen, wo der 8a+ Boulder abzweigt, kann man ein bisschen schütteln und sich mental sammeln, um die anschließenden Züge, einen eigenartigen Hookzug an einem Zweifingersteller, dann ein Kreuzer an einen schlechten Zangenseitgriff und dann ein weiter Schnapper an eine Leiste, zu bewältigen.
Der Schnapper ist im Durchstieg nochmals ein richtiger Rauswerfer, bei dem Felix 3mal gefallen ist. Am 2.12.12 war es dann soweit, nachdem Felix wieder bei dem Schnapper gefallen ist, hat er nach einer kurzen Pause nochmals einen Versuch. Jetzt hat alles gepasst und Felix stand am Ende auf dem Block. Insgesamt benötigte Felix 3 Tage für den Boulder, nachdem er das „Geißel Gottes“ gemacht hat. Mit „Wrath of the lichking“ (8c fb) hat Felix der Fränkischen einen weiteren 8c Boulder Beschert.
